After a mastectomy, reconstruction restores the shape of the breast, including the areola and nipple if you wish. It can be done at the same time as the mastectomy or later.
Breast reconstruction after mastectomy is one of the most meaningful surgeries I perform. Its goal is a natural-looking breast, similar in shape to the other, so you do not need external prostheses, can wear the clothes you want and recover your body image.
Almost every woman who has had a mastectomy can have reconstruction. It can be done in the same surgery in which the tumor is removed (immediate reconstruction), so you wake up with a breast contour, or later (delayed reconstruction), when you prefer to focus on your treatment first or when the technique or your health makes it advisable.
I use different techniques depending on your case: implants, tissue expanders that prepare the skin for an implant, or flaps using tissue from your own body, such as the back or abdomen. Finally, if you wish, the areola and nipple are reconstructed. At your consultation I explain the options calmly, so you go into surgery with clear information.
Most insurers cover breast reconstruction, so you can use your health insurance for all or part of the treatment. I help you with the reports they require.
