Cosmetic and functional rhinoplasty in Mexico City

Rhinoplasty, or nose surgery, is one of the most requested plastic surgeries and one of the most demanding in precision and experience. It can be cosmetic, to change the shape of the nose (bridge, hump, tip or width); functional, to breathe better; or both in a single surgery.

That is why everything starts with a thorough consultation. I examine your nose inside and out, listen to what you would like to change and define with you the type of rhinoplasty you need. Beauty standards are not universal: my goal is a natural-looking nose in proportion with your face.

I assess the nose as both an aesthetic and a functional unit. Most breathing problems, such as rhinitis or blocked airflow, come from a deviated septum or enlarged turbinates, often after a blow or fracture. If present, I correct them in the same surgery (septorhinoplasty); otherwise symptoms may worsen and require a second operation.

Most rhinoplasties are performed under general anesthesia. I operate in certified hospitals with the highest safety standards, because a harmonious result starts with safe surgery. Many patients only need cosmetic rhinoplasty, and in some cases cosmetic changes can be made under local anesthesia with a minimally invasive technique, and you go home in a couple of hours; a careful assessment is needed to know whether your case allows it. To reshape the hump or nasal bridge, and in septoplasty with complex septal fractures, I use a piezo device (ultrasonic rhinoplasty).

I perform both open and closed rhinoplasty. We choose the technique at your consultation, based on your nose and what you need.

I never use gauze nasal packing, which used to be the main source of pain in rhinoplasty. In functional rhinoplasty, I place silicone splints so you can breathe through your nose from the start. That is why nose surgery today is not very painful and recovery is quick.

I have experience welcoming patients from other cities and countries. Most can fly home 7 to 10 days after surgery, and I always try to remove the splint before you travel; sometimes it comes off between day 5 and 9.

Dr. José Daza, a board-certified plastic surgeon, performs all types of rhinoplasty: primary, revision to correct a previous nose surgery, complex cases with costal (rib) cartilage grafts, and nasal reconstruction.

To harmonize your profile, rhinoplasty can be combined with chin surgery in the Profileplasty package, and with neck and facial liposuction to define your facial contour in the same surgery.

Types of rhinoplasty

Cosmetic, functional or both

During your consultation I examine your nose inside and out to define the surgery you need.

Cosmetic

30 min · 2 h at the clinic

Refines the shape of the nose: bridge, tip and proportion with the rest of the face. In some cases it can be done under local anesthesia, with discharge in a couple of hours; it requires a careful assessment.

Functional

1 h · 5 h at the clinic

Corrects breathing problems, usually caused by a deviated septum or enlarged turbinates. I use silicone splints instead of gauze packing, so you can breathe from the start. I accept health insurance that covers it.

Cosmetic and functional

1.5 h · 6 h at the clinic

Both in a single surgery: improves appearance and breathing with one recovery.

Ultrasonic rhinoplasty: to reshape the hump or nasal bridge, and in septoplasty with complex septal fractures, I have used the piezo device for years. This ultrasonic instrument cuts bone precisely while sparing the surrounding soft tissue.

Recovery

What to expect after surgery

  1. Day 0 You go home the same day. No nasal packing is used.
  2. First 72 h You can usually breathe through your nose from the start, although swelling may block it for 48 to 72 hours.
  3. Day 4 to 6 You return to your normal activities.
  4. Day 10 The splint is removed and about 70% of the result is visible. Surgical tape for 5 more days.
  5. 6 weeks About 90% of the result is visible.
  6. 3 to 4 months Final result.

“It has been 9 days since my Mommy Makeover with Dr. José Daza Flores. The nursing and spa team are wonderful: they made me feel calm the whole time. The massages are not the typical painful massage other people describe. Many thanks to Brenda, Imelda, Alberto, Rosario and Dr. Daza. 100% recommended! ❤️”

His attention to detail and calm, professional presence made a world of difference. His team was just as incredible: compassionate, attentive, and genuinely caring. Nurse Imelda stood out with her kindness and reachouts throughout the process, and a special thank you to Brenda for her exceptional post-op massages, which made my recovery more comfortable. “From the very beginning, Dr. Daza stood out not just for his professionalism, but for the kindness and genuine care he shows to every single patient. After a deeply disappointing experience with another doctor, Dr. Daza was honest with me from day one and helped restore my confidence too. I initially came for a rhinoplasty, and later returned to have him correct the previous work. From the nurses and assistants to the spa team, his entire staff creates an atmosphere that feels safe, warm, and supportive. Thank you, Dr. Daza, for everything you've done for me.”
Nadine P.
“3 months after my gluteal implant surgery. I spent almost a month looking for a surgeon with experience in gluteal implants, and I was lucky to find Dr. Daza: he did an amazing job, with just one incision between the glutes, so you don't see the scar at all. A great thing is that Dr. Daza operates in his own clinic, so you always know where to go. Big thank you to the front desk girls and all the nurses, especially Imelda and Brenda; I felt at home. Definitely recommend Dr. Daza and his team.”

FAQ

Rhinoplasty questions

Am I a candidate for rhinoplasty?

If you would like to change the shape of your nose, have trouble breathing through it, or both, you may be a candidate. I confirm it during your consultation, after examining your nose inside and out.

What is the difference between cosmetic and functional rhinoplasty?

Cosmetic rhinoplasty changes the shape of the nose: bridge, hump, tip and proportion. Functional rhinoplasty corrects breathing problems, usually caused by a deviated septum or enlarged turbinates. Both can be done in a single surgery with one recovery.

Does rhinoplasty hurt?

Much less than most people imagine. The pain associated with rhinoplasty came mainly from gauze nasal packing, and I do not use it. Most rhinoplasties are done under general anesthesia, so you feel nothing during surgery; in some cases cosmetic changes can be made under local anesthesia, depending on your assessment. Afterwards, discomfort is usually mild and recovery is quick: you return to your activities between day 4 and 6.

Will I be able to breathe after surgery?

Yes. I do not use nasal packing, so you can usually breathe through your nose from the start. Swelling may partially block it for 48 to 72 hours.

Open or closed rhinoplasty?

I perform both. We choose the technique at your consultation, based on the shape of your nose and what you want to change.

Will there be scars?

It depends on the technique. In closed rhinoplasty the incisions are inside the nostrils. In open rhinoplasty a small incision is also made on the columella, the bridge of skin between the nostrils. At your consultation I explain which technique your nose needs and what to expect from healing.

When will I see the result?

When the splint comes off on day 10, about 70% is visible; at 6 weeks, about 90%; the final result takes 3 to 4 months.

Can I go in the sun or swim?

Sun exposure is not recommended during the first month, as it can affect healing and increase swelling. You can swim, but avoid diving during the first month.

How much does a nose job cost in Mexico City?

The cost depends on the type of rhinoplasty (cosmetic, functional or both), whether the bones need ultrasonic reshaping, whether grafts are needed and the type of anesthesia. That is why I do not quote a price without examining your nose: during your consultation I plan your surgery with you and you receive a complete quote. A well-planned rhinoplasty from the start helps avoid a second surgery.

Can a deviated septum be fixed in the same surgery?

Yes. A deviated septum or enlarged turbinates are corrected in the same surgery that refines the shape of your nose (septorhinoplasty), with one anesthesia and one recovery. For complex septal fractures, I use the piezo device to correct them precisely.

I live outside Mexico. How long should I stay?

I have experience welcoming patients from other cities and countries. Most can fly home 7 to 10 days after surgery. I always try to remove the splint before you travel; sometimes it comes off between day 5 and 9. During your consultation we will help you plan your travel dates.

Do you accept health insurance?

Yes. I accept patients with major medical insurance that covers functional surgery, such as correcting a deviated septum or enlarged turbinates. Coverage depends on your policy; during your consultation I help you with the diagnosis and reports your insurer requires.

What is ultrasonic rhinoplasty?

It is rhinoplasty in which the nasal bones are reshaped with a piezo device, an ultrasonic instrument, instead of rasps and chisels. It cuts bone precisely while sparing the surrounding soft tissue. I have used it for years to reshape the hump or nasal bridge and in septoplasty with complex septal fractures.

Do you perform revision rhinoplasty?

Yes. Many nasal revisions are due to a first surgery performed by doctors without plastic surgery certification, without proper diagnosis or planning. I assess your case to plan the correction of a previous rhinoplasty, including complex cases and nasal reconstruction.

Why choose a board-certified plastic surgeon?

Rhinoplasty is one of the most demanding surgeries. A board-certified plastic surgeon has completed the plastic surgery specialty and holds current certification from the Mexican Board of Plastic, Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery. Dr. Daza holds specialty license 6204435 and Board certification no. 1477, current (recertified in 2024). Before having surgery with any doctor, verify their specialty license in Mexico’s National Registry of Professionals.

What is a costal cartilage graft?

It is cartilage taken from a rib to support and shape the nose when there is not enough septal cartilage, which is common in revision rhinoplasty, noses with weak support and reconstructions. I will tell you during your consultation whether your case needs it.

Can I combine it with another surgery?

Yes. The most common combination is with chin surgery, in the Profileplasty package, to harmonize your full facial profile. It can also be combined with neck and facial liposuction.

Where is the surgery performed?

In certified hospitals with the highest safety standards, because a harmonious result starts with safe surgery.
