Lipoabdominoescultura: what it is and how it differs from a tummy tuck and liposuction
Liposuction, tummy tuck, lipoabdominoplasty and lipoabdominoescultura are not the same. Here is what each one does and which is the most complete.

Four names that are often confused
Patients often ask for "lipo" when they actually need skin removed, or a "tummy tuck" when what they want is a defined abdomen. The names sound alike, but each surgery solves a different problem. Understanding them helps you come to your consultation with clear expectations.
Liposuction (liposculpture)
Liposuction, also called liposculpture, removes stubborn fat and shapes the figure, often transferring that same fat to other areas such as the buttocks and hips.
What it does not do is remove abdominal skin or repair the muscles. That is why it works best when the skin is elastic and there is no muscle separation.
Tummy tuck (abdominoplasty)
A tummy tuck removes the loose abdominal skin. It also includes muscle plication, the closure of the abdominal muscles that separate with pregnancy or major weight loss, also known as the internal corset.
On its own, a tummy tuck does not include liposuction: it treats skin and muscle, but not the fat of the waist, flanks or back.
Lipoabdominoplasty
Lipoabdominoplasty combines both: liposuction, tummy tuck and muscle corset in the same surgery, treating fat, skin and muscle together.
It usually leaves a scar on the lower abdomen, and it can be done in several ways depending on the amount of loose skin and the shape of your abdomen.
Lipoabdominoescultura: the most complete option
Lipoabdominoescultura is the term Dr. José Daza created for the most complete abdominal combination: everything above plus 3D abdominal etching.
- Liposuction of the abdomen, waist, flanks and back
- Tummy tuck to remove loose skin
- Muscle corset: closure of the separated abdominal muscles
- 3D abdominal etching to define the abdomen
Everything is done in a single surgery, with one anesthesia and one recovery. It can be done on its own or combined with other procedures.
Who is it for?
It is usually recommended for people who, after pregnancy or weight loss, have loose skin, separated muscles and stubborn fat, and who also want a defined abdomen, not just a flat one.
If you have little loose skin or good elasticity, liposuction may be enough; if you are not looking for definition, a lipoabdominoplasty. During your consultation the doctor examines your skin, fat and muscles and tells you which option is right for you.
Combining it with other surgery
The removed fat can be used to shape the buttocks and hips, and the surgery can be combined with breast augmentation or a breast lift. These combinations are part of the Mommy Makeover and Hourglass Plus packages.
Why your surgeon matters
This is major surgery that requires planning and experience. Dr. Daza is a board-certified plastic surgeon, with Board certification no. 1477, current (recertified in 2024). Before having surgery with any doctor, verify their certification.
FAQ
What is lipoabdominoescultura?
It is a term created by Dr. José Daza for the combination of liposuction, tummy tuck and muscle corset, plus 3D abdominal etching, in a single surgery.
Is it the same as lipoabdominoplasty?
No. Lipoabdominoplasty combines liposuction, tummy tuck and muscle corset. Lipoabdominoescultura adds 3D abdominal etching to define the abdomen.
Does liposuction remove loose skin?
No. Liposuction removes fat and shapes the figure, but it does not remove skin or repair the muscles. That requires a tummy tuck.
Does it leave a scar?
When it includes a tummy tuck, it usually leaves a scar on the lower abdomen. The doctor explains during your consultation where it would be in your case.
How much does it cost?
It depends on the areas treated and whether it is combined with other surgery. You receive a complete quote after your consultation.
